Can’t get to a massage therapy appointment and need a little bit of help working out the kinks? We understand that people’s lives are busy, and they don’t always have time to get to visit their registered massage therapists. Whether you can’t wait until your next scheduled appointment or you’re suddenly overcome with a painful kink, here are some DIY massages to get you through until your next visit at RelaxZone.

Please be advised that the following DIY massages are not intended to replace professional massage therapy, and if at any point in your do-it-yourself massage you feel pain or major discomfort, please stop and call us. We may be able to book you on the same day.

For Throbbing Feet

If you’re on your feet all day, it’s no wonder you could use a little bit of TLC. If it hurts to simply stand, give each foot a gentle but powerful massage by pressing down on a tennis ball and rolling it under your arch, toes, and heel. You don’t have to apply too much pressure to feel the benefits. Once you’re done, lift each foot onto your knee and slowly massage each part of your foot in circular motions. Pay particular attention to your toes: gently squeeze, bend, and wiggle each one to loosen all those kinks.

To “Unslouch” Your Muscles

Many muscles and joints go into slouching. Unfortunately, it can lead to headaches and neck, shoulder, and back pain. First of all, if you catch yourself slouching, you may have to change the way you sit. Check your posture, make sure your sitting muscles are all the way to the back of the chair, and that your computer monitor is eye level. To loosen those muscles, start by lowering your shoulders and tucking your chin into your chest to give the back of your neck a deep stretch. Then, where your neck and shoulders meet, press firmly with your fingers and hold until you feel yourself loosening up. Moving your shoulders back and forth.

Lower Back

Lower back pain is one of the most common ailments, especially for desk jockeys. If you find yourself in constant lower back pain, we strongly suggest you keep regular appointments with a registered massage therapist and possibly convert your desk into a more ergonomic workstation. Lower back pain can be caused or worsened by many factors, including tight hip muscles, which is why it’s important to speak to a professional about your pain. For temporary relief of LBP, place a tennis ball in between your lower back and the floor (or wall) and roll on the ball in vertical and horizontal motions, making sure to avoid your spine. Apply enough pressure to squish the ball without hurting yourself.
